Q: What is the difference between a computer bug and a computer virus?

A: That's a great question Tim! Most people often confuse the two. Generally speaking, a bug is a coding error in a computer software program. Debugging is the process a programmer or developer undertakes to find out what this error is, and it occurs at every level of programming. Oftentimes, a product will be released to the public, only to find that a few bugs have been discovered, hence software updates and patches!

Viruses on the other hand, are constructed with bad intent and often resulting in a very destructive outcome, like the infamous Klez Worm. Some viruses are transmitted via downloads such as unknown e-mail attachments. A good rule of thumb is NEVER OPEN UNKNOWN ATTACHMENTS, especially if you don't recognize the sender's email address.
